What is Bhaja Govindam?

Bhaja Govindam — Seek the Eternal — is a crisp composition of just 31 verses by Ādi Śaṅkarācārya, which cuts through the delusions of worldly life with startling, yet compassionate, clarity.

The text was born from a single encounter: Ādi Śaṅkara saw an old scholar laboriously memorising Sanskrit grammar rules. He saw in him a mirror of all of us — wondrous beings deluded in our mechanical chase of life, while its depth and meaning slips away. Composed on the spot, each verse is a decisive nudge toward the only questions that truly matter: Who am I? What is my life? What is it that I truly seek?

Also known as Moha Mudgara — the hammer that shatters delusion — this text is a wake-up call. It asks you to look honestly at the transience of youth, wealth, relationships, and the body — not to despair, but to redirect. To seek what is permanent within the impermanent.

This short course studies Bhaja Govindam verse by verse, drawing out its Vedāntic depth and relating it directly to how we live today.
